Why choosing organic fabrics?

For our first product, the overshirt, we decided to go for a very organic material that reminds us of the blank canvas feeling that it procurs. We met an amazing team of craftmen and craftwomen near Lyon, that have been operating since 1902. The industrial site is rooted in the rich textile history of the region which has welcomed weavers since the Middle Ages.

The fabric is composed on a mix of 33% of organic hemp, 34% of organic cotton, and 33% of lyocell, and is OEKO TEX Standard 100 certified.

Organic Hemp

The organic hemp is made out of yarns coming from Spain. This material is very close to linen in terms of appearence and feeling when being touched. Although, it has a lot more values: it is heat-adaptable, meaning that it keeps the body fresh when exposed to too much heat, and keep it warm when cold outside. It also requires almost no water for hemp cultivation, and it a kind of crop keep the soil suitable for other cultures afterwards. It is explained by the fact that it structures the soil: 1 hectare of this crop fixes 15 tons of CO2 during its photosynthesis. Much of it is then returned to the ground.

Organic Cotton

The organic cotton yarns come from India, yep, it is far, but unfortunately we are lacking in Europe the resources to do it “in-house”. The fight for relocation of this kind of activities is on, and we must contribute to the local suppliers such as ours, whose 50% purchase are organic, recycled or from French agriculture.

Lyocell

Also known as Tencel, which is the manufacturer's trademark name, which can be confusing, as it is the exact same fiber. It is made of a wood cellulose.
Lyocell is known for being a sustainable material, due to the eco-friendly production process. Lyocell also allows a high level of absorption of moisture, even better than cotton.
Its lightness allows the fabric not to wrinkle so easily, which is also a perfect match for the organic hemp in the fabric having a decent regidity.
Lyocell is soft as silk, and provides an amazing feeling, which is actally very good for skin irritation.
